Platform-run scholarships and no-essay awards: how they work
Quick answer

What counts as a platform-run award?
Two kinds. Donor-funded scholarships that are created and awarded on the platform, as on Bold.org, and awards the platform pays for itself, such as Niche's $40,000 No Essay Scholarship or ScholarshipOwl's $50,000 No Essay Scholarship, which is paid out as monthly $1,000 draws.
Why are no-essay awards so popular?
They take minutes. That is also why many students enter, and why the odds for any one entry are small. Niche's large no-essay award lists one student; ScholarshipOwl describes its award as a monthly random draw.
What do you give in return?
Usually your profile. Signing up for a platform award creates an account, and the platform's privacy policy then applies. Check what it says about selling or sharing data, and whether partner colleges can contact you.
Who does this path suit?
Students with little time, younger high school students who want to start early, and anyone who prefers to skip essays. Pair it with a database or local search for awards where fewer students compete.

Frequently asked questions
Are no-essay scholarships real?
The ones run by the platforms here are described on their own pages, with rules and, for Niche, a named fulfillment partner that contacts winners. Real awards never ask you to pay to enter or to claim.
How do I know if I won?
Each platform describes its own process. Niche says official mail comes only from Niche or @votigo.com. Ignore any winner message that asks for a fee or bank details.
