Scholarship time planner: how many applications fit your week?

Quick answer

Enter how many hours a week you can give and for how many weeks. The planner takes out a one-time setup and a short weekly check-in, then shows roughly how many no-essay entries and essay applications fit, using time estimates you can change. The starting estimates are our rough assumptions, not measurements.

Per week: 2.7 no-essay entries and 0.8 essay applications a week

Total hours = hours per week × weeks. Application hours = total hours − setup hours − (check-in minutes × weeks ÷ 60), not below 0. No-essay entries = floor(application hours × no-essay share × 60 ÷ minutes per no-essay entry). Essay applications = floor(application hours × (1 − no-essay share) × 60 ÷ (reuse share × reuse minutes + (1 − reuse share) × scratch minutes)).

  • No-essay awards are usually draws for one or a few students, so count them as a bonus.
  • A reusable essay is the biggest time saver: the planner shows it as a lower time per application.
  • An apply-for-you service changes the math by sending one application to many scholarships, but it charges a membership; see Apply-for-you services.

How should you use the hours?

Spend the first week on setup: one document with your grades, activities, awards and two versions of a reusable essay (short and long). Then keep a weekly rhythm: check deadlines and email first, finish one essay application, and use spare minutes for no-essay entries. Put deadlines in one calendar, whatever platform you use.
